Dr. Lei Shi

Dr Lei Shi received his Ph.D. in Automobile Engineering from the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiaotong University. He is an ASME/SAE Member, Chairman of the IDM-MDO Branch of the SAE World Congress, and the past Chairman of the GALM-ASIA Global Automotive Lightweight Materials conference. He worked in the core technology research and development work at Ford China Engineering and Research Center, Global Research and Innovation Center in Ford North American where he was responsible for vehicle integration and vehicle development for Ford CD4/6 Platform and Ford Mustang and vehicle lightweight design. Lei Shi participated in the development of the Ford GPDS system. After returning to China, he served as the technical director of the R&D center of Great Wall Motor, and led the CHB platform development (H6/H7/VV5 and VV7) and vehicle lightweighting and integration. Dr Shi was the Co-founder & Vice-President of LVCHI R&D and the Executive Vice-President of the international business department, responsible for the R&D team building and led the high-performance VENERE coupe development and LVCHI overseas brand promotion, and achieve a brand value of 170 million.
Throughout his career, Lei Shi has been engaged in vehicle integration and lightweight design, multidisciplinary optimization design, platform architecture development (Gas internal combustion/new energy vehicle), product reliability and robust design, body and chassis CAE technology, vehicle crash safety and durability digital prototypes. He was the first engineer to establish an advanced vehicle performance integration and lightweight development platform and evaluation system. And firstly developed the "design-manufacturing-cost closed-loop body lightweight integrated design" technology and successfully applied and implemented in mainstream OEMs.Lei has published more than 20 research papers (SCI 9) and has been invited as a keynote speaker to present more than 30 times in China and overseas in cross-disciplinary fields of automotive industry and mechanical engineering communities. Dr Shi served as reviewer of the internationally renowned journal SAE WORLD CONGRESS/ENG. OPTIMIZ/STRUCT. MULTIDISCIP. OPTIMIZ/INT.J CRASHWOETHINESS etc. He won the SAE International Technical Awards several times, obtained the technology achievement award of "Reliability-based technology for vehicle lightweight design"in Ford Motor Global Research and Innovation Center in North America and received and award for "Excellent Mentor" in R&D center of Great Wall Motor. Additionally, he published two books: "Vehicle Materials and Lightweight Trend" and "Vehicle Safety Simulation and Design Optimization".
